Erika’s Platform
My commitment to justice comes from my background. I was raised by my single mom who immigrated from Japan. We were lucky - my mom had a good paying union job, which enabled us to live with dignity. My experience a co-founder of act on mass, the lead organization fighting for transparency and accountability on beacon hill, and as an antitrust economist has prepared me to fight for working people.
Housing
Every Resident deserves stable housing as a human right. Erika will work to ensure tenant’s rights are protected with just cause eviction, freedom from unjust fees, and tenants right to purchase. The displacement of working and middle class residents must stop and the ban on rent control should be lifted.
A Green new deal
Our children deserve a livable future and a healthy planet. We must commit ourselves to 100% renewable energy by 2030. The MBTA must become fully funded, sustainable, and free. Communities most impacted by climate change must lead the transition to a green economy.
Public Education
Every young person deserves and excellent education. All schools must be fully funded regardless of zip code. Every family should have access to high quality pre-k education. All students of public universities should graduate debt free.
immigration
No resident should live in fear, regardless of immigration status. Our communities must be kept safe from intrusive police practices and Trump’s immigration policies by passing the Safe Communities Act. The Work and Family Mobility Act should also be enacted to guarantee everyone can get a driver’s licence, regardless of status.
